My first attempt at Peg People!

Up until this past summer,  I never realized what I was doing in my sketchbooks was called art journaling.   With the realization that there was a term for what I had been doing innately since college, I excitedly dove right in.  I've spent hours on pinterest, on websites and on youtube, learning, reading and collecting.   Art journaling led me to making ATC's or Art Trading Cards, which has further helped me grow as an artist.  I started to journal in earnest this summer as a way to combat my depression and anxiety.  Something I live with daily, and control with the help of medication and art.  This blog too, came to fruition as a way to process my thoughts, and perhaps reach out to others in my art.   Joining the community at Artjournaling.ning and atcsforall was a no-brainer in terms of finding like minded people.  What I didn't expect was the depth of caring and friendship my participation in these sites would bring to my life.    Over at artjournaling.ning I made a unique connection to a woman who lives an ocean away.  We exchanged Art Cards (which led me to ATCSforAll), then exchanged facebook pages, from there we exchanged goodies via mail, then skype, and now, now I can't imagine my life with out my dear friend in it.  I look forward to our skype chats like a drowning person craves oxygen.  She is my soul sister.  Over at ATCSforAll, I am amazed by the generousity and spirit of women and men as they share and trade pieces of themselves daily.   People from all walks of life, all different backgrounds and levels of art training have come together to form a supportive and encouraging community.    Recently I was the recipient of a RAK, or random act of Kindness from a woman on the ATCforall Site.  This lovely woman found my blog through the ATC site and paid me a visit.   After reading through my blog, she contacted me and asked if she could send me some things for art journaling because she felt something good should come my way.    I was awed, overwhelmed, touched and inspired.   Sure enough a week or so later came this envelope of goodies from this amazing woman chock full of goodies for me to use in my journal.  How amazing is the world we live in that we can touch the lives of people who live so far away with the single touch of a button.   I have an idea, it's not a new idea, but it's an idea I am excited about, something I hope to post on here soon.  It's a way to touch and inspire others in ways that have inspired me.  I hope you will continue to check back in for further development.   Until  then,

Stay Safe and Love Yourself

  1. Hi,
I just ran across your blog, in particular this post and it really spoke to me. I too battle depression and anxiety and am on meds for it. I have been feeling for a long time that some sort of artistic expression might be good "therapy". I guess I am over-thinking because I have read and read so many blogs but not started anything yet. I just don't know where or how to start. Maybe I just need to dive in and hopefully creativity will flow. Anyway, I just wanted to thank you. You have inspired me. I'm going to do it!! Tami
